Not every milestone needs a fancy title

I have never been to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, otherwise known simply as, “the Met.” But I sure want to experience it now! What a year for the Met to celebrate a major anniversary – a sesquicentennial – the year of covid, when in-person events evaporated before our eyes. I know sesquicentennial translates more easily to “150th” but the sophistication of the Met drew me to type the whole thing out. With a profile like the Met, one would expect cool things to mark this milestone. And their webpage did not disappoint. There were so many ways to engage that I had to earmark the page to come back to it. From a virtual tour of exhibits over their storied history to a curated page of children’s art (there is still time to submit something!) there is enough to keep you coming back to their site for days. My favorite: Met Stories…video episodes of Met visitors sharing their personal stories of how they engaged with, were shaped by, even healed by an art experience. This is another example of how a milestone can help us RIGHT NOW. You don’t need an anniversary with a fancy name, start scrolling through your archives. Got an anniversary of a product, even a patent? How about the date your future CEO walked through your doors…as a 20-something apprentice. Ribbon cutting for your new lunchroom?
